Root Calculator
Calculate any principal root (square root, cube root, nth root) of a given number. This tool handles both common integer roots and fractional roots.
⏳
Formula
y = ⁿ√x which is equivalent to y = x^(1/n)x- The base number (radicand)
n- The degree of the root (index)
y- The principal root
Example
Finding the Cube Root
Calculate the 3rd root (cube root) of 64.
- Set the base number x = 64.
- Set the degree n = 3.
- Rewrite as a fractional exponent: 64^(1/3).
- Find the number which, multiplied by itself 3 times, equals 64.
- Result: 4 (since 4 × 4 × 4 = 64).
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, but only for odd degrees (like cube roots, 5th roots). For example, the cube root of -8 is -2. The square root (or any even root) of a negative number results in an imaginary/complex number, which this basic calculator does not display.
