Formula
a × 10^ba- The coefficient (where 1 ≤ |a| < 10)
b- The exponent (an integer)
Example
Converting to Scientific Notation
Convert 45,000,000 to scientific notation.
- Move the decimal point to the left until you have a number between 1 and 10.
- For 45000000, move it 7 places left to get 4.5.
- The number of places moved becomes the exponent on 10.
- Result: 4.5 × 10^7 (or 4.5e7).
Frequently Asked Questions
